Curriculum Spotlight: Insurance
NAF's insurance course was developed, with the generous support of New York Life, as part of the Academy of Finance curriculum. This course introduces students to the insurance industry and its critical role in the financial services sector and in society. Read our brief Q&A to learn more.

EVENTS
NCAC Honors NAF Academies at Conference
The National Career Academy Coalition honored several NAF members at their 14th annual conference in November.
  • Northeast High School Academy of Finance in St. Petersburg, Florida received the "Model Academy" award.
  • Fran Thew (in photo at left), instructor and NAF Curriculum Leader at the John I. Leonard High School's Academy of Finance in Greenacres, Florida received the "Exemplary Instructor" award.
  • Lin Dai Quant, alum and advisory board member at Miami Southwest High School's Academy of Finance received the "Exemplary Alumni" award.
Congratulations to all the winners!

Business Partner Receives "Professional of the Year" Award
On November 19th, 175 industry and post-secondary leaders attended the South Florida Academy of Hospitality & Tourism luncheon, which celebrated philanthropic donors and business & education champions. The event was marked by an awards ceremony in which the "Professional of the Year" was named. This year's winner was Joan Remington, Interim Dean at Florida's International University, School of Hospitality & Tourism Management. Joan has donated significant funds to maintain the AOHT website. She also provides scholarships, guest speakers, and field trips in support of the academies. All three are members of the AOHT Advisory Board).

ACADEMIES IN THE SPOTLIGHT
In California, NAF Academy Course Receives Higher Education Seal of Approval
The Abraham Lincoln High School Academy of Finance in San Francisco has received the University of California's a-g approval for NAF's Ethics in Business course. The approval further promotes NAF's curriculum as an avenue for preparing students for college by meeting the University of California system subject area requirements. Congratulations!

High School, Inc. & Travelers Featured in Book
Hartford-based High School, Inc's Academy of Finance and Insurance, along with their leading partner, Travelers were featured in the new book, Social Innovation, Inc. by Jason Saul. In the chapter entitled, "Develop New Pipelines for Talent," Saul uses the academy as an example of how businesses can partner with schools to engage the future workforce. Order the book today.
