National Academy Foundation and CNN's Chalk Talk
JD Hoye, President of the National Academy Foundation, appeared on CNN's Chalk Talk, a new segment highlighting innovative education programs. JD spoke of the success of the NAF model and the importance of preparing students for college and careers.  View the segment.

Cyber Summit on 21st Century Readiness September 29
The Partnership for 21st Century Skills is presenting a series a free webinars around 21st century readiness. This event will feature several guest speakers, include the National Academy Foundation's Andy Rothstein, who will present on September 29 on the topic, "Models for 21st Century Education".  Check out the full line up of events here.


Oklahoma Welcomes its First NAF Academy
The Oklahoma City Public Schools System held a press conference today to announce its new partnership with NAF. Oklahoma City is entering the Year of Planning process for an Academy of Engineering at Northeast Academy of Health Sciences and Engineering.  This will be the first academy for the state. Representatives from Senator Tom Coburn's office were in attendance, along with Dr. Irving McPhail, CEO of National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering and representatives from NAF.

ACADEMIES IN THE SPOTLIGHT
From Student to Director
As an Academy of Finance student at Downtown Magnets High School is Los Angeles in the early nineties, Sam Dovlatian loved his accounting class.  His academy experience included an internship with the City of Los Angeles' Bond Division.  Sam went to college at UCLA where he studied English.  Today, he serves as the Director of the Academy of Finance at his alma mater and the soon to be opened Academy of Engineering.  When asked about his academy experience, Sam said, "The Academy of Finance definitely provided the skills, knowledge, and social protocols that helped shape my view of life after high school.  As a director, I am dedicated to continue providing unique learning experiences to all academy students and prepare them for careers in the 21st century."
